Future Space
NASA is strategically shutting down instruments aboard the Voyager spacecraft to extend their operational life into the 2030s. These twin explorers, launched in 1977 and now in interstellar space, are running on dwindling power as their radioisotope generators lose 4 watts annually. By deactivating selected instruments, NASA hopes to continue collecting unique interstellar data from humanity’s farthest-traveled objects, which have journeyed a combined 29 billion miles from Earth
