Future Energy
In the whole of the cosmos, there is an element that makes up more than 90 percent of all atoms. It’s what makes possible the biggest ocean in the solar system, the Jovian ocean, a massive, vaporous sea hidden behind Jupiter’s stormy clouds. Although it seems like a huge body of water, the Jovian ocean is really a massive pit filled with hydrogen. While the conditions that are needed to make liquid metallic hydrogen are too harsh for us to duplicate in labs here on Earth, we do have access to hydrogen in its gaseous and liquid forms, which are both less extreme. Currently, over 70 million metric tons are used annually in a huge range of manufacturing processes, like the production of chemicals and fertilizers, the processing of food, the refining of oil, and more.
