Future Space
Are we facing a momentous U-turn after all in the case of the asteroid Apophis? NASA experts had actually calculated that the 350-meter-wide rock would just miss us in April 2029. But now Canadian astronomer Paul Wiegert has come to the conclusion that the probability of impact is higher than previously thought! Because in fact, even a collision with a small object could cause Apophis to veer off course, putting the Earth in the path of the space bullet! To make matters even more complicated, we can’t even properly estimate the risk of collision at the moment: After all, Apophis is currently in the vicinity of the Sun – and it will not return to our field of vision for another two years!
