The time has come: the Andromeda-Milky Way merger has begun! Scientists have now discovered a strange ring that could be the first sign of the two galaxies merging. The ring was discovered by amateur astronomers rather by chance and scientists were amazed that they had overlooked the gigantic structure for a long time. This means nothing less than that the merger of the Milky Way and the Andromeda galaxy began far earlier than assumed. Things could soon get uncomfortable, because the first stars have already flown out of Andromeda and are now approaching the Milky Way!
