Before we begin, are you interested in hearing a fun fact about Galileo? After he died, Galileo’s remains were transferred to a place of honor in the Santa Croce Basilica in 1737, during which three of his fingers, a vertebra, and a tooth were removed. Two of the fingers and the tooth were lost in the early 1900s but were discovered in 2009 and purchased by a private collector. The third finger has been in museums in Italy since the 1800s, and the vertebra is now at the University of Padua, where Galileo taught.
